When our ancestors lived there, Wreschen was a town in the Posen province of Prussia. Today the town is known as Wrzesnia, Poland. According to Wikipedia, Wrze?nia's had a large Jewish community which is mentioned as one of the congregations which suffered severely during the persecutions of the years 1648–1651. All the early documents were destroyed in the conflagration of 1873, in which the synagogue, an old wooden building, also was burned. From International Jewish Cemetery Project (International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies),
Jewish settlement in Wrzesnia began in the 16th century because in 1579 75 Jews paid tax. Czarniecki soldiers murdered about 100 Jewish families in 1656. A fire in 1873 burned the synagogue. Jewish population: 1905-490 and 1921-151, 2.3%. On September 10, 1939 Germans occupied the city. They destroyed the synagogue in 1940. A French POW camp was there during WWII. The first Jewish cemetery in Wrzesnia was in the 16th century. Another was established in 1868. The only trace is two gravestone fragments stored in the Museum of Children Wrzesnia.
An old Jewish cemetery was located in the center of the city bordered by the Fabryczna, Staszica and Szkolna Streets. It occupied an area of 94.5 acres. At the end of 1924, an agreement was reached between officials and the Jewish community to exchange the old cemetery for a parcel of land located on Strzalkowska highway at E end of town, the present location of the Municipal Cleaning Authority. The Nazis leveled it using the tombstones for hardening the surfaces of roads and streets. A small fraction of archival books may be found in the State Archives in Poznan.

from Mildred Abrahm Steele living in Paradise, CA 2003: "Samuel Abrahm , came to America between 1850 and 1854. He came to America wth two children that we know of. Isaac and Hannah. From a death notice which appeared in the Trinity Journal, I know my Great Grandfather Samuel Abrahm
died on July 6,1866. The death notice stated he was 68 years old at the time
of his death. From this information I can deduce he was born in the year 1798.
If his son was born in 1838 and came to America he would have been 12 years
old. His sister Hannah was born in 1832, which would make her 18 years old if
      they imigrated in 1850.
Samuel became a citizen sometime prior to 1856. I base this date on the
fact his son Isaac served in the Millitary by rite of his Father, prio to his
appearing in the 1860 census, and being 22 years old.
I know Samuel remained in New York City, or at least he was there at the
time of his Death. I assume he came from Wrechen ,Prussia, as the tombstone on
his son Isaac's grave state, he was born in Prussia.
[See note on Isaac Abrahm, for the source of of this information,
      reseached by Patricia Hicks.]
Isaac Abrahm was born in 1838 in Wreschen Prussia. He came to America, in
the company of his father, Samuel, and his sister Hannah. It is not know if
they were accompanied by other members of their family. Isaac is listed as a
clerk in the 1860 census, and it is stated he was 22 years old at that time.
His sister Hannah had married Isadore Karsky, and Isadore owned Karsky and
Company, the place where Isaac was a clerk in 1860. The business was located in
      Weaverville California.
Prior to Issac's coming to California, he served in the millitary of the
United States of America. This is known by the fact that the Abrahms home in
Weaverville, was built between 1869-1871 on a warrant issued for Military
service. He served in the millitary as a citizen by the rite of his Father.
Isaac married Pauline Michelsohn [Michelson] on April 5,1868. There were
six children from this marriage. Morris , Sadie, Samuel, Henry,
      Charlie, and Benjamin Isaac.
This information was furnished to me by Patricia Hicks, from information she
gleaned from the Trinity Journal. All of this information is preserved on
microfilm. Patrica Hicks calls herself "A Collectorof Facts" and has published
many book on the hostory of Trinity County. Patricia and her husband Frank, are
the proprietors of "California's Oldest Living Pharmacy." The Pharmacy is
located at 210 Main Street and is adjutant to the Magnolia, and Edgecomb
buildings, where the firm of" Karsky and Abrahms" was located. "
