    • On May 5, 1788, the sale of lots began in New Market which was laid out by Nicholas Hall.

      Nicholas HALL died with will leaving 1/3 each to his heirs -

      Petition to divide property in equal thirds. Commission appointed 24 Mar 1821 was John H. SIMMONS, Richard ROBERTS, James L. HIGGINS, William DOWNY and John PANCOAST; surveyor was Peter MANTZ assisted by chain carriers, Michael UMBERGER and Izrael TAYLOR.

      Land - part "New Market Plains"; part "Rich Forest" and resurveyed as "The Meadows" by Benjamin REEVES 13 Oct 1795; and Lot# 1 being two parts of "New Market Plains". Neighbors were Belt BRASHEARS (conveyed to him by Nicholas HALL), Ambrose INGMAN, George PHILPS, Samuel ENGLAND and Hugh ANDERSON. Guardians were Charles McELFRESH, Thomas C. SHIPLEY and Belt BRASHEARS; case closed 30 Oct 1821.
