      H. Merle Borts

      H. Merle Borts, 77, of 1204 N. 4th Ave. E., a former longtime resident of Mingo, died Wednesday evening, June 3, at the Heritage Manor Care Center of congestive heart failure.
      Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
      The Rev. Steve Schubert, pastor of the First Assembly of God, and the Rev. Kent Hulbert, associate pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
      Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Sunday. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
      Memorials to the church or Heritage Manor Activity Fund will be accepted.
      Survivors are his wife, Doris; two daughters, Gerri Garton of Baxter and Linda Verwers of Newton; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and a brother, Forest of Mingo.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wes; and two sisters, Belva and Alta.
      The son of Fred Charles and Eunice Couch Borts, he was born Aug. 5, 1914 in mingo and was graduated from Mingo Community High School and Railroad Telegraphy School in Marshalltown.
      He was married to Doris Nadine Logsdon June 2, 1937 in Mingo.
